DEIRA ISLANDS: DEIRA MALL, DEIRA BOULEVARD and NIGHT SOUQ
The plans for the next Mega Mall, the Mall of the World are scaling down. If four million square feet can be thought of scaling down. Currently there are several different plans in Dubai toward the realization of new malls, delaying the realization of an extra-scale project. One among them is the Deira Mall, a project designed by the property developer Nakheel located on the Deira Islands.
Deira Islands are a new urban development project, a series of four manmade islands, covering 3,700 acres, that will add 130,000 feet to the shoreline, including almost 70,000 of beachfront. Two of the islands are currently under development with the others to follow in front of Dubai’s coastline. This four – island development will give a new face to the Old Dubai housing more than 250.000 people when complete, reclaiming space to the water, and hosting retails spaces and tourism facilities.
On them, the Deira Mall will contain 4 million square feet of leasable space for retailers, with more than 1,000 shops, restaurants, cafes, entertainment outlets, and a 3.8 million square feet car park. Deira Mall will also be the center of a new housing development plan, the Deira Boulevard – a new neighborhood composed by sixteen 21-storey towers and town houses (3.000 units) expected to be completed by the time the Expo opens in 2020.
