Deira Mall is only one of the two large-scale retail projects by Nakheel Malls on the Deira islands. The other project is the Night Souk which is meant to become the largest night market adding up to 5,300 shops and almost 100 quayside cafes and restaurant. The development will feature a retractable roof, bringing natural light into the complex and allowing open-air shopping in cooler months. The Night Souq is already under construction, its units fully leased, and it is expected to be completed by the end of 2018.

The development of the Deira Islands, with the Deira Boulevard, Mall and Night Souq, is emblematic of a new format in the urban expansion of Dubai, where smaller project are designed in coordination with each other, towards the realization of new organic neighborhoods.
