Mobility Pavilion

Foster + Partners will design the Mobility Pavilion for Expo 2020, while Grimshaw Architects won the international competition to design the Sustainability Pavilion, and BIG will design the third of the three themes pavilions: the Opportunity Pavilion.

Foster + Partners is already involved in Dubai with the design of the Index Tower opened in 2011 and the Dubai Design District Creative Community now under construction. The Mobility Pavilion will have the shape of a reversed trefoil-shaped structure. As in the Opportunity Pavilion, this project will have a larger roof and a smaller footprint on the ground to optimize the shading.

The reversed shape is underlined by the floors that decrease in their surface from the top down, like de-crescent rings, with a last top floor allowing the visitor a comprehensive panorama over the Expo site. The theme mobility seems to be represented by these running rings, which remind the visitor of the Italian project Lingotto by Renzo Piano whose runaways invites to speed.
